Palma, 10th of February 2020. NuMat Medtech has been awarded the Premio Emprendedor XXI in the Balearic Islands in its 13th call, an award organised by ENISA and CaixaBank DayOne that rewards companies with the highest growth potential.
The award has been announced on the 10th of February at the CaixaForum (Palma de Mallorca) at the Day of innovation, technology and entrepreneurship “DayOne Innovation Summit”, a programme created by CaixaBank DayOne, that has brought together the main players of the entrepreneur and investor sectors of the Balearic Islands. They are organised by CaixaBank, through DayOne, and coawarded by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism through ENISA (National Company for innovation). The Balearic Islands institutions also collaborate through the IDI (Institute of business innovation), dependent on the Department of Energy Transition and Productive Sectors and the Bit Foundation, under the Department of Public Administration and Modernization.
The jury awarded NuMat Medtech this prize as an entrepreneur company developing innovative coatings with medical applications due to NuMat’s ability to achieve important milestones in a short period of time. The award includes an economic prize of 5.000 euros and access to an international development program in Silicon Valley (USA) or an international business growth course, Ignite Fast Track, from the University of Cambridge (UK).

About NuMat Medtech:
NuMat is a leading company in the development of coatings for dental and orthopedic implants. NuMat offers a disruptive solution for the healthcare market, based on natural molecules that introduce improved functionalities on implants compared to marketed implants to date. NuMat Medtech was born in 2016 after the merger between NuMat Biomedical and Sanifit Medtech. Numat Biomedical was founded by Marta Monjo. On the other hand, Sanifit Medtech was created as a spin-off of Laboratoris Sanifit.
About implant coatings:
Implantology is an extended practice therapy; however, nowadays, there are still situations in which patients may suffer implant failure or may require second interventions. The main causes of these problems are infections and low bone integration, sometimes, due to low bone quality of the patient. NuMat presents a solution that does not replace current technologies, but rather improves them. The coatings developed by NuMat endow the implant with multifunctional properties, promoting increased bone integration, improved integration with soft tissue and decreased risk of infections, which would place NuMat’s technology as the first technological solution for the implant industry that incorporates these properties
